As you may know, at AB InBev we are deeply committed to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We are constantly involved in helping fulfill this agenda through several environmental and social initiatives. Additionally, as part of this agenda, we are committed to create a community that inspires, respects and includes one another. Diversity & Inclusion and gender equality are key priorities for us.
Some initiatives I’d like to talk about are some of the things that AB InBev and our colleagues have accomplished. For instance, our U.S. colleagues at Anheuser-Busch were the first major brewer to sign the Equal Pay Pledge when President Obama announced it. Additionally, in Latin America, Ambev signed the UN Women Compact back in 2018: an invitation to media outlets and businesses to highlight the involvement of women leadership as part of news coverage. This includes explaining the different stereotypes and biases that surround female leaders across the globe.
Why is this so important? Because the media has the power to shift perceptions on massive scales in favor of equality towards women in the workplace. For too long, women have been subject to unequal pay, bias, and stereotyping; all of this happening in their day to day jobs…a place where they’re supposed to thrive.
As a Hispanic woman in a place of leadership, being part of a company that upholds and promotes equality, fills me with great pride, and it’s something I try to instill in all the colleagues I manage and mentor. Through education, and supporting initiatives such as these, I believe that the tide will shift in favor of a more just and equal world for women to be a part of.
Let’s raise a glass for all the women.
